- This is an initiative designed to promote environmental sustainability through tree planting and forest restoration. The program encourages landowners, farmers, and communities to plant and maintain trees, improving biodiversity, enhancing soil health, and helping mitigate climate change. By supporting the planting of native trees and managing forested areas, the program aims to restore ecosystems, provide wildlife habitats, and contribute to the long-term health of the environment.
Young Agrarians Apprenticeship Program
- This program is a farmer-to-farmer initiative designed to connect aspiring farmers with experienced mentors in the ecological, organic, and regenerative agriculture sectors. Through hands-on learning opportunities, apprentices gain practical skills in sustainable farming practices while working alongside established farmers.
COG’s Regenerative Organic Oats Program
Regenerative Organic Oats (ROO) supports Prairie organic oat growers in adopting regenerative practices and transitioning to regenerative organic management.
Working with COG’s team of science advisors, ROO’s network of Prairie farmers are exposed to regenerative organic oat farming principles and discuss their challenges and successes in farmer to farmer meetings. Our program is oriented in community building and is a great opportunity for farmers to learn among their peers.

- Resources, webinars, field days and guest speakers plus access to our agronomy consultant
- Free on-farm soil health monitoring including soil chemistry and biology, crop foliar analysis and in-field monitoring to make you ROC ready

The Regenerative Organic Alliance (ROA)
The Regenerative Organic Alliance (ROA) is a nonprofit organization founded in 2017 by a group of farmers, business leaders, and experts focused on soil health, animal welfare, and social fairness. Its mission is to build soil health, empower farmers, ensure farm worker equity, and improve animal welfare through the Regenerative Organic Certification®.
The Regenerative Organic Certification® is a holistic certification that focuses on three key areas:
- Soil Health: Promoting regenerative practices to build and maintain healthy soils, which are essential for improving biodiversity and sequestering carbon.
- Animal Welfare: Ensuring that farms meet high standards for humane animal treatment, promoting ethical practices and better living conditions for livestock.
- Social Fairness: Supporting farm workers’ rights, promoting fair wages, and improving labor conditions on farms, helping to create more equitable systems in agriculture.
The other tools and resources that the ROA provides are:
- Certification Standards and Guidelines: ROA offers detailed guidelines and standards for certification, helping farmers and businesses understand and implement regenerative organic practices. These standards include criteria for soil management, animal care, and worker welfare, ensuring a holistic approach to agriculture.
- Educational Resources: ROA provides access to educational materials, webinars, and training programs that support the adoption of regenerative practices. These resources are designed to build the knowledge and skills of farmers and stakeholders involved in organic agriculture.
- Farmer and Business Support: ROA offers direct support to farmers and businesses through advisory services, helping them navigate the certification process, implement regenerative practices, and troubleshoot challenges that arise in adopting these methods.
- Advocacy and Policy Resources: The ROA advocates for policy changes that support regenerative practices and creates a stronger policy environment for sustainable agriculture. They also work to raise awareness about the importance of regenerative agriculture at local, national, and international levels.
- Collaboration and Networking Opportunities: ROA facilitates collaboration among farmers, businesses, and organizations to share knowledge, best practices, and innovative solutions to common challenges. This community-building approach helps to drive systemic change within the organic agriculture sector.

It was the middle of August, and crops were eagerly heading to seed when Julia, our ROO Program Coordinator, drove 10 hours north of Calgary, AB to visit Joash on his farm, 58th Parallel Organics.
