Government Relations

We work to advance policy at the local, regional and national levels

As a registered educational charity and not-for-profit, we engage governments on issues of importance to organic and regenerative producers in Canada. Our government relations work is driven by a commitment to advocating for policies that support the growth and success of organic farming, ensuring that the voices of organic farmers are heard in the policy-making process. We strive to create opportunities for organic farmers to connect directly with their representatives, enabling them to share the positive impact of their farming practices and communicate the policy support they need. We also collaborate with stakeholders on issues faced by consumers and value chain businesses.

Sustainable Agriculture Strategy Advisory Committee

COG joins the Sustainable Agriculture Strategy Advisory Committee in December 2022.

In December 2022, the federal government launched the development of a Sustainable Agriculture Strategy (SAS) to help set a shared direction for collective action to improve environmental performance in the agriculture sector over the long-term, support farmers’ livelihoods and strengthen the business vitality of the Canadian agricultural industry.

COG is a member of the SAS Advisory Committee. As the organic sector representative on the committee, we hold this role in the highest regard and work collaboratively with our network to keep them informed and support SAS initiatives. Learn more about our engagement, here.
