Join Canadian Organic Growers (COG) for a field day at the Butkiewicz Farm in Rolling Hills, Alberta on July 29th! Our morning will be spent touring the Butkiewicz Farm and neighbouring farms who will be showcasing their regenerative organic practices including:
- Multispecies cover crop
- Oats with HumaTerra (a pelletized compost – highly fungal)
- Oats under seeded to alfalfa and timothy – manure creating earthworm hotspot
- Hemp intercropped with multispecies mix (rye grass, alfalfa, chicory, subterranean clover, plantain, phacelia, and clover)
- Hemp HumaTerra-Ecotea comparison trial
- Vermicompost demonstration
During the tours, COG’s organic agronomy and educational consultant Ruth Knight will demo techniques for on-farm benchmarking. After lunch we will hear from agronomist and cover crop expert Kevin Elmy who will lead an insightful discussion. Come prepared with your questions, photos and ideas for discussion.
This in-person field day is presented in collaboration with our Regenerative Organic Oats (ROO) program and Ecocert Canada. This event is generously funded by Nature’s Path, Riverside Natural Foods and Bay State Milling and the On-Farm Climate Action Fund, an initiative of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada.
This event is free but spaces are limited. Event address and full agenda will be shared after registering.
