The Canadian Biotechnology Action Network (CBAN) has launched a House of Commons e-petition for mandatory labelling of all genetically engineered (genetically modified or GM) foods in Canada. Demand mandatory labelling. Demand transparency and choice. Stop unlabelled, unregulated GM foods.
The e-petition 6768 was launched on the House of Commons website by the 15-group network CBAN in partnership with Kids Right to Know, and authorized by Yves Perron, Member of Parliament for Berthier—Maskinongé and the Bloc Quebecois agriculture critic.
“Mandatory labelling is urgent because biotechnology companies can now start selling gene-edited fruits and vegetables without even notifying the government,” said Lucy Sharratt, Coordinator of the Canadian Biotechnology Action Network. “Consumers should have transparency and choice in the marketplace.”
The petition e-6768 is posted until November 3, 2025 on the House of Commons website.
