Canadian Organic Growers (COG) is thrilled to announce that Karen Murchison has joined our team as our new Executive Director. After significant consideration given to the skills, experiences and expertise needed to successfully guide Canadian Organic Growers into its next phase of growth, COG’s Board of Directors has selected Karen Murchison to serve in this important leadership role. Karen moved into her role as Executive Director on July 24, 2023.
Karen comes to COG following seven years with the PEI Certified Organic Producers Cooperative. During her tenure, organic production expanded to more than 12,000 acres Alongside sector leaders, Karen was instrumental in developing comprehensive strategies for water use, carbon capture and most recently, agroforestry. The launch of Growers Station, a local food distribution hub, in 2021 stands as her greatest achievement in her capacity as research coordinator.
Karen studied agronomy at Dalhousie University and business at the University of Prince Edward Island. She is a professional agrologist and practicing agronomist and has held numerous volunteer positions, most often with food-related community organizations. She has three grown children and currently lives in downtown Charlottetown, PEI.
Karen’s commitment to organic agriculture as well as expertise in producer support, education and community development will be a hugely positive asset to our organization. We wish Karen a warm welcome as she begins her leadership journey with COG.
