Regen Reads – Not Just Dirt

“Soil without life is dirt” ðŸª±

Our Regen Reads recommendation this month is Not Just Dirt by Kevin Elmy

Not Just Dirt is a very accessible read that can be picked up by anyone from the regen ag novice to the well weathered producer. There’s something in it for everyone.

In his latest work, Kevin starts strong by laying a clear foundation for regenerative ag including applications from both conventional and organic modes of production. He delves into the “how” behind common management techniques and their often unintended consequences on the soil.

These foundations are then expanded to hammer home a few key points including: “soil without life is dirt” and most importantly “plants fix dirt”. If you’re thinking about changing the way you see your plants and dirt, this is the read for you!

“Topics extensively covered are the five soil health principles: keep a vegetative plant growing, increase plant diversity, reduce tillage, reduce use of synthetic inputs, and livestock integration, plus the rationale of why these are important. There are seven producer’s stories telling of their regenerative agriculture journey from Western Canada and Western Australia.”

Regen Reads is COG’s monthly regenerative agriculture reading list. ðŸ“–
