SOG Calendar – Growing Season & Non-Growing Season

The Non Growing Season Program is on hold pending additional funding.

January-March: Occasional get-togethers with seniors focused on memories of gardening, gardens of the world (origins of New Canadians), topics about gardening of interest to each group, topics of interest about cooking, nutrition and shopping as well as fun activities around flowers, photographs relating to gardening. Special workshops on topics such as Grow Lights, Transplanting, Composting are available on request. Subject to funding
April: appointments with administration and workshops for planning gardens in Retirement Homes and Community Housing Seniors Buildings.
May-June: planning & planting sessions with seniors
June-July: regular visits with seniors to monitor watering, weeding, blights, etc.
August-September: harvest celebration visits
September: garden clean up with seniors and feedback on program from seniors, volunteers and administration.
October-December: Occasional get-togethers with seniors focused on memories of gardening, gardens of the world (origins of New Canadians), topics about gardening of interest to each group, topics of interest about cooking, nutrition and shopping as well as fun activities around flowers, photographs relating to gardening. Special workshops on topics such as Grow Lights, Transplanting, Composting are available on request. Participants share feedback about their “SOG experience” informally. Administrators and volunteers are invited to share feedback on their SOG experiences.
