About Feast of Fields

Feast of Fields is an annual event during which local farmers and chefs from the greater Ottawa region team up to create an original and organic feast for the public. 20-25 farmer/chef teams provide food, drinks and dessert to 500-600 ticket holders. The objective of the event is to showcase the wide range of organically produced food available in the region, as well as to highlight the growing number of regional chefs and their restaurants who source ingredients locally, use seasonal products and identify the source of their local dishes on their menus.

Feast of Fields keeps its environmental footprint small by using recycled dishes and cutlery that will be reused instead of disposed, providing bike rack stands, encouraging car pooling and public transportation, and using environmentally friendly printing materials. Sponsors and participants have interests that range from preserving the environment to promoting local food, thus helping sustain local communities and local food systems.

This increasingly popular event is presented by the Ottawa Chapter of Canadian Organic Growers (COG-Ottawa), a not-for-profit, volunteer national organization. The Ottawa Chapter has nearly 500 members throughout Eastern and Western Quebec. Members include farmers, gardeners, food activists and consumers interested in supporting the local organic food system, the protection and enhancement of the environment, and the health of consumers and producers. Proceeds of this event help fund COG activities and projects such as Growing Up Organic which promotes the use of local organic produce in regional daycare centers and encourages the development of school gardens.

Feast of Fields 2010 will be held on Sunday September 12, 2010 at LeBreton Flats Park from 12-4pm with food served between12-2pm. Tickets are currently available online and will be available at select vendors beginning August 15th.
